SUMMARY
Manages machine operators in the MGS Fabrication (Press & Shear) Department, fabricating structural and sheet metal products. Manages departmental material handling activities. Monitors production output and ensures that products meet customer specifications and quality expectations. Works with the Production Manager and the other manufacturing Department Managers to as a critical element of the manufacturing team.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proficient in the use of Fabrication machinery such as CNC Plasma Table, CNC Press Brake, Shears, Saws, Drills, Punches and the various hand tools necessary to a fabrication shop.
  • Ensures fabricated parts and prepared, "packaged", stored and transported to subsequent operations according to MGS Procedures
  • Manages and/or coordinates the ordering of steel
  • Manages the raw material receipt process
  • Manages the raw material and fabricated parts Material Handling processes
  • Monitors and maintains departmental inventory.
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
  • Retrieves and prepares CNC data for production use.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job travelers to assign duties to workers.
  • Develops, monitors and reports on team activities.
  • Responsible for team's labor efficiencies and  improvements.
  • Participates in product development and improvement activities.
  • Participates in quality goal planning and review sessions for the Manufacturing division.
  • Manage or participate in MGS projects not related to production. Ex. Process Relocations, New Equipment Research, Manufacturing Capabilities Expansion, Cost Analysis, Training Development, etc.
  • Trains or ensures the training of new employees in individual machine operations, safety procedures, MGS operating procedures and work instructions.
  • ensures Operators Routine Maintenance is performed daily
  • Ensures a clean working environment is maintained
  • Ensures that the workplace safe practices are monitored and followed.


Participate in Fabrication department scheduling:

  • Reviews work orders in order to determine manufacturing process needs for departmental operations.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Works with Job Controller to determine process and personnel needs based on the master schedule.
  • Works with Job Controller to alter schedule to meet unforeseen conditions.


Serves as a member of the Operations Management Team and participates in the following activities:

  • Monthly Operations Management meetings to review key company indicators with team members.
  • Provides updates and assigns departmental action items as appropriate.


Serves as a member of the HR team and participates in the following activities:

  • Attends monthly HR meetings to review status of HR activities.
  • Participates in establishing new HR initiatives with team members.
  • Interviewing, hiring, disciplining, and training employees.
  • Reviews employee performance, recommends wages, and resolves personnel issues.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Directly supervises employees in the Fabrication (Press and Shear) Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION & / OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 5-10 years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three to five years supervisory experience is preferred. Basic computer skills including word processing, electronic spreadsheets and proficient in CNC software. Courses in team building and project management experience preferred.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to direct and work effectively with diverse personalities. Participative management style and advocates of team concept.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Outlook, Microsoft Office Software (Excel Work, Power Point). Design Software, ERP Systems Software and be able to perform research through the internet.
