Summary:  The Engineer develops design information and documentation.  Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgement in making moderate adaptations and modifications.  Independently resolves many design problems encountered by selecting and interpreting information from precedents, safety, regulations, manufacturer's catalogs, technical gudes, and knowledge of design intents. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require the investigation of a moderate number of variables.  The Engineer reports directly to the VP of Engineering who screens assignments for unusual or difficult problems and assists in the selection of techniques and procedures to be applied for non-routine work.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES  include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Creates and maintains clear, complete and accurate working plans, sketches and drawings of products components, proposals, characteristics and processes using Pro/ENGINEER and other CADD systems.
  • Specifies, performs and documents various technical calculations to analyze design parameters, including cost estimates.  Determines feasibility of design requests.
  • Participates on various MGS divisional, functional, design review and project teams, as assigned.
  • Performs assignments designed to develop professional working knowledge and abilities.
  • Interfaces with fellow employees, vendors, customers and business contacts.
  • Communicates with customers as required to ensure products conform to customer requirements and meet customer needs.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable quality system procedures, industry standards, safety regulations, standard engineering principles and practices, and design precedents to the extent of the employee's ability and expertise.
  • Gathers all necessary information to develop a final design.  Performs research and experiments to solve specific design problems.
  • Plans, schedules, coordinates and conducts detailed phases of engineering work for entire products.
  • Creates and maintains Design Plans in order to complete design projects.
  • Directs the work of Sr. Designers, and Designer / Drafters as assigned.

EDUCATION & / OR EXPERIENCE

A two or four-year college or technical school degree in mechanical design and relevant technical design experience, or equivalent qualifications and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to effectively present information to company personnel and customers.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as geometry, algebra, trigonometry, exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
