MANUFACTURING

MGS Manufacturing Core Competencies

Procurement

Procurement

Maintaining the flow and quality of goods and services is essential to producing MGS fabricated products. MGS relies on a team of individuals that are skilled in:

  • Materials acquisition
  • vendor evaluation / selection
  • recordkeeping.

These skills integrate with our lean manufacturing system to ensure that the material needs of the manufacturing group are efficiently satisfied and the necessary material certifications and certificates of compliance are obtained.

Fabrication

Fabrication

Fabrication capabilities include shear, burn, punch, drill, saw and bend via CNC technology.

Strategic partnership with outside companies for laser cutting and machining of parts.

Preparation & Coating

TT-C-490 Chemical Conversion Coating & Pretreatments for Metallic Substrates (Base for Organic Coating)

  • MGS's typical surface preparation adheres to TT-C-490 methods I and VI.  Booth blasting is not typical.
  • Our surface preparation for Military coatings adheres to Federal Specification TT-C-490.  MGS has proven each process listed below internally and received independent approval for these processes as well; approval granted by such entities as Raytheon Defense Systems and Lockheed Martin.

1.2.1 Surface Cleaning

  • Method I - Mechanical, Abrasive Blast
  • Method II - Solvent Cleaning
  • Method VI - Phosphoric Acid (detergent) Cleaning

1.2.2 Conversion Coating

  • Type VI - MIL-DTL-5541 Chemical Conversion Coating for Aluminum Substrates
  • Type VIII - MIL-PRF-32550 Metal Rich Primers

4.2 Inspection

  • Our test procedures and equipment enable us to fulfill the performance of typical relevant inspections which may be required by contract.

CARC: MIL-DTL-53072E/F (MIL-DTL-53039 Aliphatic Polyurethane Topcoat)

  • MGS's Industrial application of CARC coatings, follows all steps of Military detail 53072E/F with minimal testing and record keeping.
  • MGS's Military application of CARC coating adheres to all requirements of MIL-DTL-53072E/F.

MGS has been a well-known source of Chemical Agent Resistant Coatings (CARC) application for 25+ years.  Our processes have matured through the years.  Our equipment is contemporary and well-maintained, and our personnel are exceptional in application and quality measurement.  MGS's internal certification program was developed with the help of technical advisors from Sherwin Williams, one of the largest manufacturers of CARC and other military coatings.  Our internal certification program allows to train employees to this and other military and commercial standards.  We are an approved CARC supplier for Raytheon Defense Systems and Lockheed Martin.  We employ the following pretreatment and prime processes.

Pretreating

  • TT-C-490; Ferrous & Aluminum
  • DOD-P-15328 Wash Primer; Aluminum

Priming

  • MIL-DTL-53022 Epoxy Primer
  • MIL-PRF-23377 Types I & II, High Solid Epoxy Primer
  • MIL-PRF-32550 Zinc Rich Epoxy Primer

CARC:  MIL-DTL-53072E/F (MIL-PRF-32348 Powder Coat)

  • In Development
  • Commercial / Internal Certification program also in development

Polyurethane, aircraft & Support Equipment:  MIL-PRF-85285

  • MGS's Industrial application of MIL-PRF-85285 coatings, follows all steps of the Procedure, with minimal testing and record keeping.
  • MGS's Military application of MIL-PRF-85284 is not implemented.  Development and installation would not take very much effort.

MGS utilizes this process on specific ground support equipment and our own, proprietary, steerable axle running gear.  This coating system has proven very durable in the seven yours of application history.  Employees are certified internally to this coating system.

Pretreating

Commercial Blast:  NACE No. 3 AAPC-AP-6

  • MGS is Qualified, through third party acceptance criteria, to perform media blasting surface preparation to multiple SSPC Standards.  SSPC-SP-6 is the typical application for structural steel components of our assemblies.
  • SSPC-SP-6 Commercial Blast Cleaning, Wheelabrator, structural channel
  • SSPC-SP-6 Commercial Blast Cleaning, Clemco Blast Booth
  • SSPC-SP-5 White Metal Blast Cleaning, Clemco Blast Booth
  • SSPC-SP-10 Near White Metal Blast Cleaning, Clemco Blast Booth
  • SSPC-SP-1 Solvent Cleaning
  • SSPC-SP-2 Hand Cleaning
  • SSPC-SP-3 Power Tool Cleaning

Thermal Spray

  • MGS is Qualified, through third party acceptance criteria, to perform the thermal application of Molybdenum, Tin and Zinc.  We are an approved plating (JY) supplier for Ratheon Defense Systems.
  • AWS C2. 19 Specification for the Application of Thermal Spray Coatings
  • AWS C2_16_C2_16M_2017 Guide for Thermal Spray Operator Qualification Programs
  • MGS is qualified, through third party acceptance criteria, to perform the thermal application of Molybdenum, Tin and Zinc.  We are an approved plating (JY) supplier for Raytheon Defense Systems.

Welding

Welding

Individual weld employees receive their certification to the Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs) and Weld Procedure Specification sheets (WPSs) developed through MGS's certification process. This base certification allows MGS to execute structural steel welds in "All Positions" using a wide variety of base materials and thicknesses, up to 3/4" thick.

MGS has developed over 75 unique PQR/WPSs and is certified to execute structural welds in the following areas:

• D1.1 - Structural Welding - Steel

• D1.2 - Structural Welding - Aluminum

• D1.3 - Structural Welding - Steel Sheet

• D1.6 - Structural Welding - Stainless Steel

MGS has a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) on staff. We are now able to develop and qualify our own PQRs and WPSs, and our employees, to those procedures.
